Contemporary Abstract Expressionist Acrylic Painting by Brad Rickerby

When you are feeling like taking an adventure, when you are open to the letting the colors do there thing, this is what you want to be doing. Plus, it creates a big mess, which is always a bonus to me!

Take several different colors (for me the big part is the color selection, they are going to blend and merge in different and unexpected ways so some thought might be used here). The paint should be a soft, flow formula. You can add any one of many different mediums now depending on the look you want your painting to have. I often use self leveling medium. The more of it you use, the less texture will appear in your final product.  Now quick, thrown the painting onto a piece of glass (do not cut yourself). You can do this fast, without thought, or you can plot what colors you want to appear where. In the end, it seems not to matter, the colors go where they want anyway. Take a canvas or paper of board and press it into the mess you have created. Move it around a little (or a lot) to get some blending of the paint. Pull the canvas (or whatever) off and you have your masterpiece!  Have fun.

You can always reach me at brad@bradrickerby.com. Your thoughts and suggestions are always appreciated.

  2. Itaya. It is great fun. And the more you do it, the more control you can gain over where the paint goes. Have fun. Brad
