Contemporary Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting by Brad Rickerby

Compliments, 9 x 6", Oil on Paper
Available for sale

I like working in compliments. Laying one color against its compliment (in this case orange and blue) makes the first color pop. In this case there are three or four different blues and several mixed oranges, plus some dabs of white to lighten the whole creation. Compliments was made entirely with palette knifes. Pick a color up and lay it down, one after another, covering the first colors and subsequent layers as you go. The colors mix on the paper, so those that were not mixed before hand will not look straight out of the tube when done.
